Hello All

No real improvment in the weather and the harvest of Asparagus - let's
hope it means better weather for the village fete and Open Farm Sunday in
June!

ELLENDEN ASPARAGUS
We seem to have fresh Asparagus picked most mornings, but it has been
selling out by mid afternoon.  We will put bundles aside for you if you
are
able to give us 24 hours notice.

In addition we currently have in stock Hollandaise Sauce to accompany.


NEW PRODUCTS  - CHOCOLATE
We have had a lot of people coming in asking for for chocolate for baking
or simply to cure a sugar craving!  As a result we have now got the
following 100g bars available:

Dark Chocolate
Fruit & Nut Dark Chocolate
Dark Choclolate with Raspberry
Milk Chocloate.

Ann wisely only ordered one variety of milk chocolate as this is my
favourite!

COOKING SAUCES
In the hope of some warm Barbecue weather we have started to stock:

Diane sauce for steaks
Chicken & Rib Barbecue Sauce

These sauces are located by the Ghurkah Sauces, flour, stuffing etc.  The
shelves next to the sausage chiller.


PULLET EGGS (Small eggs)
A number of customers have reported back that their pullet eggs have been
double yolkers - it just shows that size isn't everything!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK - ASPARAGUS SOUP 
I thought this recipe was appropriate for the unseasonally cold
weather.......

Melt 50g of butter in a large pan, and 1 finely chopped onion.  
Fry over a low heat for around 5 minutes, until soft, but not coloured.
Add 750g Ellenden Chopped Asparagus (tough woody stalks removed), and cook
stirring for a further 10 minutes.
Add a litre of vegetable stock, bring to the boil, cover and simmer gently
for 20 minutes.
Leave to cool slightly, then blend.
Season with salt and pepper, stir in 150ml of double cream and re-heat
gently (do not allow to boil)
Garnish with a handful of chopped chives


HARVINGTON PRE-SCHOOL & PTFA BARN DANCE CELEBRATING THE ASPARAGUS FESTIVAL
SATURDAY MAY 22ND

Fancy a jig and a bit of pig?  Then why not come to a really fun Barn
Dance
and Pig Roast in celebration of the local asparagus harvest in conjunction
with the “Vale of Evesham Asparagus Festival”.

The event will be held in Harvington Village Hall on Saturday 22nd May and
is a fundraising event co-organised by Harvington CE First School PTA and
Harvington Pre-school committee.  The frolics start at 7.15pm.

Tickets are £12.50 each but for that will include a Pimms on arrival with
an
asparagus taster (provided by yours truly Ellenden Farm), at least a
couple
of pork-filled baps from a very generous Hog Roast, a range of delicious
puddings, a Barn Dance caller and band, a paying bar with a barrel of real
Hook Norton ale as well as other interesting side stalls throughout the
evening. There will also be an auction and a raffle.

If you've ever wanted to meet a green man, you may be in luck as we are
also
hoping for a visit by Mr Asparagus himself, “Gus” but this is still to be

FARMING NEWS
Don't be suprised if you see the ewes and lambs grazing in our garden -
they are doing a great job of mowing the lawn and are cheaper than the
current price of fuel!


OPEN FARM SUNDAY JUNE 13TH
We have a number of flyers printed, if anyone feels they know of places
they can distribute some, please let me know!

In addition we have a photographer booked for the day.  Alison will be
taking photographs both natural and posed.  She has the facility to be
able
to view on site, and print if you wish to purchase.  There will be plenty
of lovely photo opportunities, see our website for examples from last
year.

St Richards Hospice are kindly loaning us a bouncy castle.  They are going
to ask for a donation in return for "a go". 

Please let us have some warm weather again - Angela and I have had to go
back to lots of layers for working in the shop!
